Welcome to Cluxewe, a natural wonder, in the land of the Kwakiutl people, who own and manage the Resort. “Cluxewe” has two different, but related, meanings: “place of the changing river mouth” and “place of refuge.”

“Change” and “Refuge”: you can find both in this spectacular and peaceful setting, where the Cluxewe River meets the sea at Broughton Strait, along British Columbia’s famous Inside Passage.

Whether you need a change from your day-to-day experience  or a natural refuge from the strains of urban life, come to this magical place. Share in the hospitality of the Kwakiutl. Make this natural wonder your special place to pause, to fish, to enjoy wildlife, and to relax.

From its accessible, central location, you can also explore other wild wonders of Northern Vancouver Island.

You’ll feel as though you’re a world away at Cluxewe Resort. And you are on the edge of a wilderness. Yet, you are just 1 km from the Vancouver Island Highway and a 12 minute drive from the modern, well-appointed town of Port McNeill. Shops, restaurants, art galleries, museums, a bank, marina – even golf courses – are just short distances away.

Campgrounds, Cabins & RVs

Live as close as possible - as comfortably as possible - to the ever-fascinating ocean. Listen to waves splash on the shoreline. Awaken to the haunting sound of loons or the rusty-gate screech of a bald eagle. Enjoy fabulous summer sunsets over Broughton Strait. (In early summer you can enjoy both sunsets and sunrises from your deck.)

Each of the twelve cozy cottages, including the 3-unit "three-plex," comes with cooking and dining utensils, stove, refrigerator, microwave oven, bathroom with shower (many have a tub as well), and propane barbecue. Cottages also feature TV/VCR's with satellite television. These cottages are wonderful retreats for artists, writers, and nature lovers as well as fishermen!

147 campsites, many on the ocean and Cluxewe River estuary.

Food & Wine

Cluxewe Resort Cafe - Enjoy the enclosed, heated deck at the Cluxewe Cafe. One of the most beautiful dining location in Northern Vancouver Island. Enjoy waterfront dining!

Fishing

Salt Water Beach Fishing. This is something truly unique to Cluxewe Resort. In August, pink salmon congregate near the beach and pool at the river mouth prior to their journey to fresh water. Fly fishermen come from all over the Pacific Northwest (and beyond) to cast from the beach. Some venture into the sea with hip waders or fishing tubes. Though pink salmon return to the river each year, these runs are generally stronger in even-numbered years. In September, coho also return to the estuary and can be caught by either fly fishing or spin casting.
