On Sunday, June 21, Canadians everywhere celebrate National Aboriginal Day, a special day that showcases the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding achievements of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across the country.

If you are lucky enough to be in Victoria, BC over that particular weekend, you get to immerse yourself in authentic Aboriginal culture – and tons of free, live performances for three full days, as the city hosts the annual Aboriginal Cultural Festival.

Hosted on the traditional territory of the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations in Victoria, the event kicks off Friday, June 19 and wraps up on National Aboriginal Day, June 21. Each day starts with performances from the two local Host Nations, followed by Aboriginal performers from across the province, including a show from three-time world hoop-dancing champion Alex Wells.

Aboriginal Tourism BC (AtBC) hosts this free, three-day outdoor event at The Royal BC Museum which features a large main stage for more than 30 scheduled performances. Festivalgoers will also find a unique artisan craft fair showcasing arts and crafts certified by the Authentic Indigenous Artisans Program, and an outdoor food court where they can buy traditional Aboriginal cuisine like West Coast clam chowder, fry-bread, and Indian tacos.

You can get special VIP access to the event when you book the Victoria Aboriginal Discovery Package through AtBC. The package includes a 2-night/ 3-day stay in Victoria at a 3, 4, or 5-star hotel with travel from Vancouver via BC Ferries or from Seattle via Clipper Vacations, plus backstage pass to the Aboriginal Cultural Festival with privileges to meet artists and performers, private cultural interpretive tour at the Royal BC Museum, private artist’s tour at the Songhees Wellness Centre, and a complimentary Aboriginal lunch.

You also have a chance to win an exclusive Victoria Aboriginal Discovery Package! Contest closes this Friday, May 22, 2015. Click here to enter.
