In addition to living life to the fullest I am a proud mother of four and married for 23 years and enjoy being a grandmother to two new grandsons. Which brings my family to five generations…Thanks to my Grandmother Sophie Thomas. Nkezi!!!!
Leadership roles consists of being President of the Prince George Native Friendship Centre, Vice President of the United Native Nations, Secretary-Treasure for the Northern Aboriginal Interior Health Unit, worked as a Native Student Support Worker for School District #57 for 10 years and served the community and aboriginal families and introduced cross-cultural training. Participated in numerous studies that enhance the quality of life for aboriginal people with the goal of being independent.
Currently, General Manager of Bednesti Lake Resort and a tireless advocate for the environment. Other educational pursuits consist of being a student in the University of Victoria Aboriginal Governance Administrative Program, Vancouver Native Education Centre Land Stewardship Program. Held a variety of leadership positions within my community and in the Region. Was the first Aboriginal Woman to be appointed by MLA Lois Boone to the first created Northern Interior Regional Health Board and represented the North West Region to McBride and Fort Fraser and Prince George Region. Recipient of Aboriginal Leadership Community Recognition Award in 1994 for years of volunteer service in being consistent in bridge building our cultures. Geraldine is also currently completing her Bachelor of Liberal Business Studies at Simon Fraser University.
Born and raised in Saikuz Carrier Nation by Grandmother Frog Clan Leader Sophie Thomas who is a renowned traditional medicine woman. Her teachings to all who know her are to respect the land and all the gifts she gives to mankind. My Father Gerald Kakakaway was inspirational in teaching me the plains culture and to be proud of who I am.
