Suggested Itineraries and Getaways Now Available
January 6, 2012
(Vancouver, BC) Visitors from across the country and around the world come to British Columbia to not only enjoy breathtaking scenery and diverse geography unlike anywhere else, but also to discover and appreciate the province’s unique Aboriginal cultures.
To help travellers find and plan authentic Aboriginal tourism experiences throughout British Columbia, the Aboriginal Tourism Association of BC (AtBC) just launched a new feature on its website that showcases suggested itineraries and getaways. Visitors to the site can download the information (in PDF format) or browse at their leisure online at
www.AboriginalBC.com/itineraries.
The suggested itineraries for those seeking authentic Aboriginal-themed experiences include Aboriginal owned accommodations, restaurants, galleries, activities and attractions along popular and some less travelled driving routes in British Columbia. This includes the Northern tip of Vancouver Island to the Sunshine Coast, Haida Gwaii, Northern BC, Kootenay Rockies, Okanagan and so much more. The main focus of the AtBC online itineraries is based on popular driving itineraries. In addition AtBC has added some “off the beaten path” package suggestions such as bear-watching in BC's Great Bear Rainforest, outdoor adventures in Kootenay National Park or jet boating along the Fraser River near Williams Lake.
This is just the first phase of the project, and AtBC will continue to develop suggested itineraries and getaways to include new market-ready Aboriginal experiences and products within British Columbia.
AtBC CEO Henry stated: “AtBC continues to bring new marketing initiatives forward to support the Aboriginal cultural tourism businesses throughout BC. We believe such efforts provide local and international visitors a great opportunity to experience authentic Aboriginal tourism.”
AtBC CEO Henry added: “We know the tourism consumers within or coming to British Columbia continue to seek new experiences. The Aboriginal cultural tourism sector provides another great avenue to learn about the rich traditions and history of the land through our world class Aboriginal experiences.”
AtBC CEO Henry concluded: “AtBC will continue to work with Aboriginal communities and entrepreneurs to diversify the itineraries in the future. AtBC will be releasing our new five year strategy entitled The Next Phase in January that will identified six strategic areas for our industry to meet increasing demands while ensuring authentic Aboriginal cultural tourism products.”
