AtBC Celebrates Successful AGM and Sets Stage for New Five Year Plan

Vancouver, BC - Coast Salish Territory: Aboriginal Tourism Association of British Columbia’s (AtBC) stakeholders met at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel last night. There were over 70 individuals composed of stakeholders and partners in attendance who participated. This was AtBC’s largest AGM ever and is a clear indication of the increase in the Aboriginal culture tourism sector in BC.

AtBC CEO Keith Henry stated, “AtBC has made tremendous progress over the last number of years and the growing attendance and interest is a result of AtBC’s effectiveness. Our sector in growing substantially and there is more confidence in AtBC’s marketing and product development programs for our stakeholders. Delegates approved the 2010-2011 reporting and elected seven new members to the AtBC Board.”

AtBC CEO Henry added, “The AtBC board has 12 elected members whose terms are staggered. Last night AtBC welcomed:

  • Vancouver Island – Re-elected Lillian Hunt (Umista Cultural Center)
  • Kootenay Rockies – Elected Lillian Rose (Akisqnuknik Development)
  • Cariboo Chilcotin – Re-elected Doug Green (Cariboo Jet Boat Adventures)
  • At Large positions: 
    a. Re-elected George Taylor (Le la la Dancers)
    b. Re-elected Brenda Baptiste (Takaya Golf Center)
    c. Elected Paula Cranmer Underrhill (Sts’ailes Development Corporation)
    d. Elected Wade Baker (Spirit Sky Studio)

AtBC CEO Henry further added; “The AGM board elections were great and we have new board members. We recognize former AtBC board members Richard Krentz, Dorothy Grant, and Bill Helin. They made great contributions over the last number of years”.

AtBC CEO Henry concluded; “AtBC is now working with a new Five Year Plan for 2012-2017 and has over 100 attendees’ at our fifth stakeholder forum to review the latest draft. AtBC expects to release the final version by January 2012 that will ensure the Aboriginal cultural tourism sector continues to grow to over 68 million by 2017 in annual revenues.”
