BC Aboriginal Tourism Showcase

Coast Salish Territory - Vancouver Feb 19, 2010

Attention Media, visit the BC Aboriginal Tourism Showcase on Friday February 19, 2010 from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 PM at the BC Showcase at the GE Plaza at Robson Square (800 Robson St, Vancouver). See why 1 in 4 visitors to British Columbia seek out a First Nations cultural experience and why it’s the fastest growing sector of British Columbia’s tourism industry.

Media will see a showcase of colourful First Nations cultural traditions found here in British Columbia and be able to speak with tourism operators who provide these cultural experiences for visitors from around the world.

Follow the sound of the drums to meet and see:

  • A smoke smudging ritual, a ceremonial and spiritual cleansing.
  • Half Moon Woman – one of three people still alive practicing the ancient and spiritual art of birch bark biting.
  • Douglas Green who has brought native medicinal plants from the Chilcotin region of BC.
  • Aboriginal cuisine – wild, nutritious and delicious!
  • The Nisga’a people are from the Nass River valley in Northern BC. Ts’amiks means "lighting, light creator" They are a rare nation that drums in four-part harmony, which makes their sound very distinct. The songs passed through many generation are often over 3,000 years old, and describe the many interactions between the people, earth and the animals held in high esteem.
  • Delicious traditional cuisine as prepared by Daryle Nagata, Executive Chef, Pan Pacific Vancouver
